In his review of Douglas Self’s 2nd edition of Small Signal Audio Design, Jean-Pierre answers the question: should you get this new edition when you have the first edition? His answer is an unqualified Yes. What he found really impressive in this book is the amount of formation and details given on all aspects of audio equipment whether professionally oriented mixers and studio equipment or home HiFi oriented equipment like preamplifiers. The book’s major, goal is designing for lowest noise and lowest distortion or in one word best dynamic range; this is not straightforward but this book is a major help towards that goal.
